Meet the maker

Hi, and welcome!

My name is Michaela and I am the designer and maker behind mijatu. I am entirely self-taught and while I currently have a 9-5 job, I find it such a rewarding feeling to be working with my hands, and creating special little items that will be cherished by others. I am so glad you're here and want to thank you for helping to support an Australian one-woman business.

Born out of my love for understated elegance, I draw inspiration from nature's ability to use the smallest of details to enhance beauty. From beautiful diamond wedding rings to your everyday favourites, I believe every piece should be an expression of your own personal style, and a reflection of your personality.

I feel like mijatu women are romantics at heart. They want to express their femininity in small, subtle ways and love the purity and delicateness of the organic, natural surroundings around them. I'm not a "girly girl" myself, but I do love little feminine touches, and I hope that this is shown through each of my designs.

All pieces are lovingly handmade by me in my studio in Sydney, Australia and each step of the process is touched by my hands. Thank you for popping by and I hope you find something that speaks to you, as much each piece does to me.

A few words on my bridal collection

It wasn't until I prepared for my own wedding that I struggled to find bridal accessories that truly spoke to me. I wanted to wear something that was graceful in its minimalism, that exuded femininity  - but wasn't overly traditional or 'girly' with lots of bling.

After many unsuccessful searches, I decided to create my own bridal collection and make something that would always remind me of all the special moments my husband and I share together. This has since become the inspiration for my collection, where I look to use various flowers and plants we discover together as we wander our neighbourhood on weekends. I love that by transforming these into metal using the lost wax process, I can capture their raw beauty right from the moment they're plucked from the earth, and turn them into something that can be enjoyed for generations to come.

I hope you too will find a piece to treasure for your special day xo
